This new mountain dulcimer week produced independently by Lois Hornbostel will take place Mon., June 7 thru Sat., June 12, 2010. The location will be the lovely Blue Ridge Assembly of the YMCA in Black Mountain, North Carolina. (Yes, that's the town they wrote the 'Black Mountain Rag' about!) The Blue Ridge Assembly has a long history in arts and music. It was founded in 1906 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, but today includes a modern conference/retreat center on 1,200 acres of beautiful mountain landscapes. For the first time in my 24 years of organizing mountain dulcimer weeks, this venue allows our participants the opportunity to have "under one roof" comfortable hotel rooms, excellent buffet dining, and their dulcimer playing classes.
Our faculty includes the cream of mountain dulcimer teachers and players: KENNETH BLOOM, BILL TAYLOR, STEPHEN SEIFERT, LINDA BROCKINTON, NINA ZANETTI, PAUL ANDRY, DOUG BERCH, DON PEDI, PHYLLIS GASKINS, BETTY SMITH, MIKE ANDERSON, JEFF FURMAN, AND ANNE LOUGH. "Dulcimer Doctor" JOSEPH SHELTON, will conduct a class on dulcimer maintenance. I'll be teaching classes as well. JOHN HURON, dulcimer builder and experienced instructor, will conduct a Dulcimer Building Course, from which you can take home a beautiful new instrument of your making!
All folks interested in playing the mountain dulcimer are invited to join this event. We'll have playing skills classes for all levels of experience and many specialized classes in playing styles and different styles of music. Over 200 hours of classes in all. There will be tuition discounts on early registrations, and info is on the website. If you have other questions on DULCIMERVILLE, please feel free to contact me thru this website.
